09/28/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former first-round draft pick Jeremy Guthrie can reach .500 for the season and add to an already career-best win total today when the Baltimore Orioles close out a schedule-ending three-game series at Camden Yards against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays.
Guthrie, the 22nd pick in the 2002 draft by the Cleveland Indians, made 16 appearances for the Indians between 2004 and 2006 before going to Baltimore and appearing in 32 games last season, winning seven times.
He's started 29 games this season and earned his 10th win on August 13 at Cleveland, but has since dropped three straight decisions while seeking No. 11.
In those three outings, he's allowed 19 hits and 14 runs in 16 2/3 innings.
Lifetime against the Blue Jays, he is 1-1 in six starts with a 2.72 earned run average in 39 2/3 innings.
For Toronto, Florida-born righty Jesse Litsch tries to replicate the result of his last start against the Orioles on September 18.
In that game, the fifth of his career against Baltimore, the 23-year-old allowed four hits and two runs in six innings of a 3-2 Blue Jays triumph at home.
Lifetime against the Orioles, he is 2-3 in five starts with a 4.76 ERA in 28 1/3 innings.
Litsch is 4-2 in his last eight outings covering August and September since dropping an 8-3 verdict to Baltimore on July 21. On Saturday, Brian Bass allowed just three hits and a run in six innings on the mound, as the Orioles snapped a 10-game skid with a 2-1 win in a second straight rain-shortened game at Camden Yards.
Toronto came away with a 3-0 victory when the game was stopped in the top of the seventh in the series opener on Friday, but the Jays had no answers for Bass (4-4), who retired the last 13 hitters he faced and struck out four while walking none.
Melvin Mora was 2-for-3 with an RBI as Baltimore snapped its longest losing skid since 2004.
John Parrish (1-1) lost to his old team after allowing two runs on nine hits in five innings of work for Toronto, which has dropped four of six.
Toronto has won 11 of its 17 matchups with the O's this season.

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
