10/01/2008 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Luca Sbisa to an entry-level contract on Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We consider Luca a good, young prospect for us," said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. "We are happy to have it done. He has continued to play well for us through training camp. The fact he is still here (in training camp) shows that we think very highly of him, and at the end of the day, we will do what we feel is right for the organization and what we feel is right for the development of this young player."
Sbisa, 18, was the 19th overall selection in the 2008 draft.
"It is a great feeling," said Sbisa, a native of Ozleri, Italy. "I have been working for this moment since I started playing hockey. I came here and told myself to do my best, have fun and see what happens. I just want to gain as much experience as I can and see what happens."
Last season, the six-foot-two, 190-pound rearguard compiled six goals and 33 points in 62 games for Lethbridge of the Western Hockey League.
Philadelphia opens the 2008-09 season Saturday, October 11, at home against the New York Rangers.
